MTN Group has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s economic transformation through a strong and sustainable telecommunications sector following a high-level engagement with the Federal Government earlier this week.

The discussion brought together MTN Group President and CEO, Ralph Mupita, MTN Nigeria CEO, Karl Toriola, and the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, to examine the strategic role of telecommunications in shaping Nigeria’s economic future.

At the meeting, participants agreed that a resilient, reliable and future-ready telecoms industry is critical to unlocking productivity, driving innovation and supporting Nigeria’s aspiration of becoming a one-trillion-dollar economy. The conversation underscored the sector’s role as a backbone for digital services, enterprise growth, job creation and inclusive national development.

A key focus of the engagement was the need to consistently improve quality of service for Nigerians, ensuring that connectivity keeps pace with rising demand across businesses, communities and public institutions. At the same time, emphasis was placed on the importance of long-term industry sustainability, including policies and frameworks that encourage investment, infrastructure expansion and innovation.

MTN executives highlighted the company’s ongoing investments in network capacity, coverage and digital services, noting that collaboration with government and regulators remains essential to addressing industry challenges and delivering shared value.

The meeting reflected a shared understanding that strong public-private partnerships are central to building a telecom ecosystem capable of supporting Nigeria’s digital economy ambitions.

MTN reiterated its commitment to constructive engagement with policymakers and regulators, advancing sector sustainability, and delivering services that not only meet customer needs but also contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s national development goals.
