The Federal Government has expressed its openness to collaborate on Artificial Intelligence with the Nigeria Computer Society in order to strengthen the country’s economy.
Artificial intelligence, according to TECHlife with Ugo, is the use of computer systems to do jobs that would ordinarily need human intelligence.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, who was represented by the Director, National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Yau Garba, said research on AI and other emerging technologies was ongoing with researchers in various universities across the country at the inaugural Artificial Intelligence Summit in Lafia on Thursday.
“AI is ushering in new methods of planning, travelling, and working,” he stated. Its creative application has improved people’s lives by providing new employment, augmenting some old ones, and completely replacing others. Agriculture, health, logistics, and security are just a handful of the domains where AI is offering potential.
“This summit provides a forum for discussing, promoting, and adopting AI in order to assure rapid national development in emerging technologies for the nation’s benefit.” The ministry applauds the Nigeria Computer Society’s initiative, and we are delighted to be a part of it.
The focus of the summit, dubbed ‘Artificial Intelligence For National Development,’ according to Adesina Sodiya, President of the Nigeria Computer Society, was to enable, develop, and expand Nigeria’s capability in AI, as integrating it into governance would trigger numerous activities such as better policy formulation, efficient decision making, increased work output, and improved service quality.
“The NCS has recently launched a number of projects and programs aimed at national development. Today, we are witnessing the launch of another creative program with the goal of affecting every aspect of our economy.
“AI is being implemented across the world to enhance the processes and activities of both the public and private sectors. Countries and businesses are now leveraging on the emerging technologies for better performance,” Sodiya said.
Earlier, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, who was represented by his Deputy, Emmanuel Akabe, praised the NCS initiative and urged them to help the government teach inhabitants of the state in technological innovation.
“Recent research suggests that Artificial Intelligence is a catalyst for innovation and economic progress,” he stated. Today’s world is a global community that is heavily reliant on information and communication technologies.
“We in Nasarawa state want to key in with the dynamics of the changing world so I am appealing that you extend your training to us, particularly on Artificial Intelligence.”
