Participants in the fifth edition of the MTN Media Innovation Programme (MIP) have gained first-hand insights into Nigeria’s telecommunications industry as part of the programme’s Immersion Week, where classroom learning is complemented with practical engagements with industry leaders.

The week-long experience brought the MIP 5 Fellows face-to-face with senior executives from MTN Nigeria, who shared their expertise on emerging technologies, industry trends, and the evolving regulatory environment shaping the country’s digital economy.

The interactive sessions featured presentations and discussions led by MTN’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Lynda Saint-Nwafor; Chief Technology Officer, Yahaya Ibrahim; and General Manager, Regulatory Affairs, Ikenna Ikeme.

The executives provided participants with practical perspectives on the opportunities and challenges within the telecommunications sector, helping the fellows better understand the technological innovations and policy frameworks driving the industry’s growth.

Speaking on the theme, “5G, IoT, and the Future of Tech,” Lynda Saint-Nwafor urged the fellows to look beyond the current excitement surrounding artificial intelligence and pay closer attention to the foundational elements powering the next wave of digital innovation.

According to her, while AI continues to dominate conversations globally, the real drivers of technological transformation are data, energy infrastructure, and computing capacity, which collectively enable emerging technologies such as 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT) to thrive.

The Immersion Week forms a key component of the MTN Media Innovation Programme, exposing fellows to real-world industry experiences and equipping them with practical knowledge that complements their academic learning.

Through interactions with senior leaders, participants gained valuable insights into the strategic direction of Nigeria’s telecommunications industry and the role of technology in accelerating economic development and digital inclusion.

MTN Nigeria said more highlights from the Immersion Week will be shared in the coming days as the MIP 5 Fellows continue their engagement with industry experts and deepen their understanding of the country’s fast-evolving technology ecosystem.
