The Lagos State Police Command has officially announced the commencement of activities to mark the 2026 edition of National Police Day, with a lineup of programmes designed to strengthen community engagement and public trust.
According to the Command, this year’s celebration is themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” reflecting the core principles of community policing. The initiative aims to deepen collaboration between the police and the public, honour the sacrifices of officers—especially fallen heroes—and highlight the professionalism and operational readiness of the Nigeria Police Force.
As part of the celebrations, a series of activities have been scheduled across Lagos State:
Monday, 30th March 2026
- Sanitation and environmental cleaning exercise across all Area Commands, led by respective commanders at 9:00 a.m.
- Medical outreach programme at Computer Village, Ikeja, starting at 10:00 a.m.
Tuesday, 31st March 2026
- Public walkathon to promote awareness and engagement, beginning from the State Command Headquarters in Ikeja GRA to Maryland Junction.
Wednesday, 1st April 2026
- Public sensitisation campaigns addressing electoral violence, cultism, and other security concerns
- Road safety awareness for drivers, emphasising responsible driving practices
Thursday, 2nd April 2026
- Stakeholder engagement session
- Presentation of cheques to families of deceased police officers
Tuesday, 7th April 2026 (Abuja)
- Grand finale featuring a ceremonial parade and tactical display
The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has invited residents, community leaders, stakeholders, and partner organisations to actively participate in the activities. He noted that the celebrations present an opportunity to reinforce trust, enhance cooperation, and promote lasting peace and security across Lagos State.
