The Lagos State Police Command has reassured residents of public safety following a swift and intelligence-driven response to a reported security threat involving two prominent private schools in Ikeja.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 21, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., when the Human Resources Manager and Chief Security Officer of the schools separately reported to the Ikeja Divisional Police Headquarters that they had received distress messages via WhatsApp from an unidentified number.
Acting immediately on the reports, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led a coordinated team of operatives to the school premises. The response team included specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and other tactical formations to assess the situation and reinforce security.
EOD-CBRN experts carried out a thorough sweep of the entire school environment, covering classrooms, administrative offices, halls, playgrounds, and adjoining areas, to check for any improvised explosive devices or suspicious materials. The operation confirmed that no explosives or hazardous items were present, and the schools were subsequently declared safe for normal academic and administrative activities.
Following the incident, CP Jimoh ordered an intensified investigation to track down and arrest those responsible for sending the threat messages. Meanwhile, combined teams of police officers have been deployed to the affected schools on a permanent basis to ensure continuous protection of students, staff, and facilities.
