Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), has called upon residents of Lagos to integrate maintaining a clean environment into their daily habits, emphasizing that cleanliness should not be limited to special occasions or festivities.
In a statement released by the agency, Gbadegesin extended congratulations to the Muslim community for successfully concluding the Ramadan fast, marking the celebration of Eid-el-Fitri this year.
Highlighting the significance of personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness in Islam, Gbadegesin stressed that these principles should extend beyond the Ramadan period and become ingrained in daily life.
“Islam emphasizes cleanliness on a personal level, within the household, and in the surrounding environment. It condemns filth and dirtiness in our vicinity. I urge everyone to make these fundamental teachings a consistent part of our daily lives. The condition of our environment reflects what we contribute to it. Therefore, let us uphold good hygiene within our homes and the broader environment, for our own benefit,” he stated.
While extending festive greetings, Gbadegesin cautioned against irresponsible waste disposal in public spaces such as street corners, road medians, sidewalks, and other unauthorized areas. He warned that LAWMA enforcement personnel are actively mobilized to apprehend offenders for immediate prosecution.
Assuring the continued optimal operation of Private Sector Participants (PSP) in waste management, Gbadegesin pledged that LAWMA would provide additional support services in areas requiring such assistance. He urged motorists to exercise caution to ensure the safety of sanitation workers on major roads during the festivities.
Additionally, he encouraged residents to promptly report any service gaps to LAWMA’s customer care for swift intervention.
