The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has advised telecoms subscribers to observe the Coronavirus guidelines and protect themselves during the ongoing National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment process in various centres across the country
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the independent national regulatory authority for the telecommunications industry, appealed to Nigerians to adhere strictly to the stipulated COVID-19 guidelines.
The Commission, in a consumer education and protection cum public sensitisation material containing a message posted on its Facebook page on the necessity to keep safe at NIN enrolment centres, advised telecoms subscribers to observe the Coronavirus guidelines.
This is especially important during the ongoing National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment process in various centres across Nigeria, so as to curtail the spread of the dreaded virus.
The telecoms regulator says: “The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) wishes to call on telephone line Subscribers to adhere strictly to COVID-19 Safety Guidelines in the National Identity Number (NIN) enrollment process in order to stop the spread of the virus.
The Commission further noted that the Commission “is urging all subscribers undergoing the NIN enrolment to keep safe while doing so by wearing a facemask and maintaining social distance.”
NCC thus reminds Nigerian consumers to always maintain physical distancing, wear nose masks, frequently wash their hands, and apply hand sanitisers to protect themselves, their loved ones, and others in the country.
Meanwhile, report indicates that cases of COVID-19 keep increasing in the country, according to daily updates from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
The agency noted that thus far, “190,333 cases have been confirmed, 169,815 cases have been discharged and 2,308 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
NCDC stated the 618 new cases were reported from 15 states as follows: Lagos (312), Akwa Ibom (89), Edo (71), Rivers (47), Ekiti (20), Plateau (20), Delta (15), Kwara (13), FCT (11), Osun (8), Oyo (4), Ogun (3), Benue (3), Gombe (1) and Kaduna (1)
A multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), activated at Level 2, continues to coordinate the national response activities, the agency said.
It also emphasises the mandatory use of non-medical nose masks in public spaces, with ‘No mask, no entry. No mask, no service’ campaign in the country.
