The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) have strengthened efforts to bridge Nigeria’s gender digital divide through a strategic partnership aimed at promoting digital inclusion, innovation and skills development for women across the country.
The commitment was reaffirmed during a courtesy visit by a NAWOJ delegation, led by its National President, Comrade Aishatu Ibrahim, to the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa,. The visit also served as an opportunity to introduce the Agency to the forthcoming Women in Security (WINSEC) Summit and Awards 2026, an initiative designed to promote dialogue, collaboration and innovation in addressing contemporary security challenges.
Represented by the Director of Stakeholder Management and Partnerships, Dr. Aristotle Onumo, the NITDA Director General pledged the Agency’s full support for the summit, assuring the delegation of NITDA’s active participation and commitment to ensuring the event’s success.
Inuwa commended NAWOJ for championing initiatives that promote peacebuilding, security awareness and women’s empowerment, noting that such objectives align closely with NITDA’s mandate to accelerate digital literacy and increase women’s participation in Nigeria’s digital economy through its National Gender Digital Inclusion Strategy.
He explained that beyond supporting the summit, NITDA sees the partnership as an opportunity to create sustainable programmes that will equip more women with digital skills and improve their access to emerging technologies.
“Inclusivity remains at the heart of everything we do at NITDA. We have deliberately ensured that at least 40 per cent of our programmes address gender inclusion, creating opportunities for more women to participate and benefit from Nigeria’s digital transformation journey,” he said.
According to him, collaborating with NAWOJ will also provide the Agency with a wider platform to engage women journalists and other female-focused organisations across the country, further expanding the reach of its digital literacy and capacity-building initiatives.
“We are delighted to support the WINSEC Summit and look forward to building a long-term partnership with NAWOJ that will create greater opportunities for women to acquire digital skills and actively contribute to national development,” Inuwa added.
Earlier, NAWOJ President Comrade Aishatu Ibrahim applauded the NITDA Director General for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing Nigeria’s digital economy through innovative policies and transformative programmes.
She explained that the Women in Security (WINSEC) Summit and Awards 2026 is designed to bring together government institutions, security agencies, technology professionals, media practitioners and other stakeholders to foster collaboration on emerging security issues while exploring the role of technology in building a safer and more resilient nation.
She added that the summit would also recognise individuals and organisations that have distinguished themselves through excellence in security, governance, innovation and public service.
“We appreciate NITDA’s remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s digital transformation and respectfully seek the Agency’s partnership in making this landmark initiative a success,” Ibrahim said.
She further expressed NAWOJ’s desire to establish a long-term collaboration with NITDA that would empower women journalists with cutting-edge digital competencies while promoting innovation, digital literacy, human capital development and greater inclusion for women in the technology ecosystem.
Both organisations expressed optimism that the engagement would mark the beginning of a strategic partnership with clearly defined objectives aimed at expanding digital inclusion, strengthening women’s capacity in technology and supporting Nigeria’s broader digital transformation agenda.
