Award-winning journalist and former Cable News Network (CNN) International anchor, Isha Sesay, is set to make a special appearance on this week’s edition of African Voices, the CNN magazine programme proudly sponsored by telecommunications giant Globacom.
This time, Sesay will step away from her familiar role as interviewer to share her own inspiring story, offering viewers a rare insight into her distinguished journalism career, humanitarian work, and personal journey.
Born on January 6, 1976, the British-Sierra Leonean broadcaster has built an enviable reputation in international journalism. Before joining CNN in 2005, she worked with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Sky News, where she earned widespread acclaim for her exceptional reporting and presentation.
A graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge, United Kingdom, Sesay quickly rose through the ranks at CNN. In 2009, she became the host of the network’s weekly news programme, International Desk, where she interviewed several influential personalities, including former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
Her remarkable career also included anchoring the 360 Bulletin on Anderson Cooper 360°, a role she assumed in January 2011, before later becoming an anchor of CNN NewsCenter, further establishing herself as one of the network’s most respected journalists.
Beyond the newsroom, Sesay has remained committed to advancing opportunities for girls across Africa. In 2014, she founded Women Everywhere Can Lead (WE Can Lead), a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing education, mentorship and support for girls, empowering them to become future leaders.
In recent years, Sesay has also inspired audiences around the world by openly sharing her path to motherhood through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) as a single mother. During her appearance on African Voices, she reflects on her celebrated broadcasting career, her unwavering commitment to girls’ education, and the deeply personal experiences that have shaped her life.
Viewers can watch the programme on Saturday at 7:30 a.m., with a repeat broadcast at 11:00 a.m. Additional airings are scheduled for Sunday at 3:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday at 3:00 a.m. and 5:45 p.m., and Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. The same broadcast schedule will be repeated the following week, with the final airing on Monday at 3:00 a.m.
