Gbajabiamila’s Dilema: The political drama

A major political argument has broken out in Nigeria. A political group known as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has come out publicly to make very heavy complaints against a top official in the government. This official is Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, who works as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

On July 3, 2026, the NDC released an official letter signed by their media spokesperson, Osa Director. In this letter, the party expressed deep shock and worry over some very serious claims of bribery, theft of public funds, and illegal operations within the government. The claims involve the Chief of Staff and another man named Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi. Prince Adeyemi claims to be the head of a government office called the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). The NDC is deeply alarmed by these events and wants the government to take immediate action.

The entire problem revolves around this office called the PFIPC. The NDC claims that this office does not actually exist on paper, but that some corrupt people in government created it secretly to steal public money. They claim that Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila helped to set up and protect this fake office so they could move country funds into private pockets.

Because of this, the NDC says that the current government is not being honest, open, or fair to the citizens of Nigeria. They believe this situation reveals a big gap in how the government accounts for its money and actions.

According to the statements made by Prince Adeyemi, this fake agency was treated like a real government office behind the scenes. He claimed that the agency received its own share of money from the official 2026 national budget.

Even more shocking, Adeyemi claimed that the agency successfully went to the central bank of the country—the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)—and opened three very important types of bank accounts. These accounts were:

• A Domiciliary Account (an account used to hold foreign money like US Dollars).

• A Pound Sterling Account (an account for British money).

• A Treasury Single Account, which is a special type of account meant only for official government financial business.

The NDC finds this part of the story extremely confusing and suspicious. The official leaders in the presidency have come out to tell the public that this agency does not exist at all. Therefore, the NDC is asking a very simple question:

Usually, when a normal citizen or business wants to open a foreign currency account, the bank asks for very strict documents and proof. The NDC wants to know how a fake office passed all these strict bank checks without the proper papers. They are asking if the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (the person in charge of government accounts) intentionally accepted forged or fake documents to let this happen

Reports claim that the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation gave official approval for 314 workers to be employed by this non-existent agency. The NDC is highly confused about how such a huge administrative action could happen. They wonder how hundreds of jobs could be approved without the knowledge of the President or the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

This made the NDC ask a very harsh question: Is the Tinubu government so disorganized and careless that major financial and employment decisions are happening right under the noses of its top leaders without them knowing anything about it? Adeyemi alleged that the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, demanded a whopping 48 percent of the money meant for starting the agency. This percentage amounts to a massive sum of ₦27,395,510,136 (over 27 billion Naira). Adeyemi claimed he refused to pay this huge percentage, which caused a big fight between them. Even more surprising, Adeyemi admitted that he did not get his position as Director-General through hard work or standard procedures. Instead, he claimed he bought the job through the Chief of Staff for ₦600 million.Adeyemi stated that he used middle-men to pay ₦400 million directly to the Chief of Staff, leaving a balance of ₦200 million unpaid. He claims that because he failed to pay the remaining 200 million Naira, government officials got angry and decided to turn around and deny that his agency exists.

The NDC stated that these are not small rumors. They show a clear and scary habit of corruption inside the government, where top public positions are allegedly sold to the highest bidder like items in a market. They believe this scandal proves that the current government has made corruption a normal way of ruling Nigeria.

The situation has also become dangerous and scary. The NDC pointed out that a man named Mr. Babatunde Tanimola died under very strange circumstances.

Mr. Tanimola was the person acting as the middle-man between Prince Adeyemi and the Chief of Staff. Reports show that he died in a terrible hotel fire accident in Utako, Abuja, on October 22, 2025. What makes this suspicious to the NDC is the timing: he died just one single day after the police received a formal complaint letter from the Chief of Staff regarding the matter.

Because of this, Prince Adeyemi has raised a loud alarm that his own life is in danger. He claims that people have tried to assassinate him multiple times. One of these scary attacks supposedly happened on the Abuja-Kaduna highway on September 7, 2025. He recently cried out to the public, saying that powerful forces inside the government are actively trying to kill him to keep him quiet. They want Femi Gbajabiamila to be removed from his job right away. They argue that if he stays in office, he can use his high power to change or block the investigation, which creates a huge conflict of interest. They want the President to create a special team of independent investigators who do not take sides. This team must check everything, including how the fake agency operated, how it got into the national budget, how the bank accounts were opened, and who approved the 314 staff positions.They want a deep police investigation into the hotel fire that killed the middle-man, Mr. Tanimola, as well as the attempts on Prince Adeyemi’s life.They want the government to give Prince Adeyemi full security and witness protection so nothing happens to him while the truth is being found. They want the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), and the national police to handle the case thoroughly.

The NDC warned that they will not accept a simple, defensive public letter from the presidency trying to brush the matter aside. They insisted that Nigerians deserve to know the raw truth through an open process. They stated that the culture of doing bad things without punishment and selling government jobs must come to an end.

On the other side of the story, the presidency has completely denied all the claims made by Prince Adeyemi. They maintain that the entire story is a big lie and that the agency does not exist. They state that Adeyemi created a completely fake government body and illegally opened dozens of bank accounts using names of offices that do not exist. The presidency revealed that back in October 2025, Femi Gbajabiamila wrote an official complaint to security agencies about this big forgery and identity theft scheme. Because of this complaint, the police have already filed criminal charges against Prince Adeyemi and two other people. The government added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission had already noticed the suspicious activities of this fake agency earlier and raised concerns.
