Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced a major leadership change at WhatsApp, with Will Cathcart stepping down as the head of the messaging platform after 7 years in charge.
He made this known through his post on Facebook today, June 22, 2026.
According to Mark, “Will’s been one of Meta’s most important and effective leaders, helping to bring WhatsApp to over 3 billion people and championing privacy for our community.”
In the announcement, Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that Kunal Shal will join Meta as WhatsApp’s next leader.
The Meta CEO described Shal as a “builder” with strong global experience, noting that his leadership style aligns with Meta’s long-term vision for WhatsApp in strengthening both personal and business communication across billions of users.
