The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has been honoured as Environmental Impact Agency of the Year 2025 at the 18th Leadership Annual Conference and Awards held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.
The award was presented to the Agency’s Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, in recognition of NASENI’s expanding role in promoting clean energy, green technologies and environmentally responsible industrialisation across Nigeria.
The recognition reflects the Agency’s growing investments in renewable energy solutions and local manufacturing. From solar-powered systems and clean cookstoves to electric mobility initiatives and innovation hubs supporting young entrepreneurs, NASENI has increasingly positioned itself at the intersection of technology, sustainability and economic development.
In his remarks, Halilu described the award as both an honour and a call to do more. He reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to driving environmentally friendly innovations that not only protect natural resources but also strengthen Nigeria’s industrial base and create jobs.
A key part of NASENI’s sustainability push is its Zero Carbon Project (ZeCo), designed to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon technologies and reduce emissions across critical sectors. The Agency is also developing a 40-hectare Solar Industrial Park in Nasarawa State to boost local production of renewable energy components and deepen Nigeria’s clean energy value chain.
Beyond large-scale projects, NASENI has rolled out practical solutions aimed at everyday impact, including solar irrigation systems for farmers, electric vehicles and tricycles to cut transport emissions, energy-efficient smart meters and home solar solutions to expand access to reliable power.
The event was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Dr. Amina J. Mohammed, among others.
The award further cements NASENI’s reputation as a key driver of innovation-led sustainability, reinforcing its mission to build a cleaner, more resilient and technologically self-reliant Nigeria.
