The Dr. Cairo Ojougboh Foundation has intensified its efforts to promote education by providing financial and moral support to students of St. Columba’s Grammar School, Agbor, in Delta State.
At a programme themed “Your Future, Your Choice,” the Foundation donated ₦2.7 million to cover external examination fees for students preparing for WAEC, NECO, and JSS3 exams. The initiative reflects the Foundation’s mission to uphold the legacy of the late Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a medical practitioner and former lawmaker, by investing in young people’s academic growth.
In addition to paying examination fees, the Foundation recognised exceptional academic performance by awarding cash prizes to the best students across the school’s nine academic divisions. Writing materials were also distributed to students to further support their studies.
Speaking at the event, the Foundation’s Chairperson, Mrs. Bose Ojougboh, described the intervention as a meaningful way to give back to the school that played a vital role in shaping her late husband’s character and achievements. She urged students to remain determined and focused, reminding them that challenges are stepping stones to success rather than barriers.
She encouraged them to be deliberate about their choices, stressing that discipline, consistency, and hard work are critical to building a successful future. Her sons, Mr. Nkem Ojougboh and Mr. Orieka Ojougboh, were also present at the event in support of the initiative.
The occasion attracted members of the school’s Old Boys Association, led by Elder Ndudi Agholor, who reflected on their time at the institution and applauded the school’s leadership for sustaining its tradition of excellence.
The school principal, Rev. Fr. Joseph Ugboh, and the Chairman of Ika South Local Government Area, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, commended the Foundation for what they described as a thoughtful and impactful gesture. They noted that the support would ease the financial burden on families while motivating students to aim higher.
The event ended on a positive note, with students inspired to work harder and make responsible decisions about their education and future aspirations.
