As artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing continue to reshape the global business landscape, data is no longer a byproduct of digital operations, it has become the central engine driving innovation and growth. This was the assertion of Christophe Vaissade, Sales Director for OEM, Embedded, and Enterprise at SanDisk, who described data as “a must-have strategic asset” for modern enterprises.
Vaissade noted that the volume of data being generated globally is growing at an unprecedented rate, with projections estimating that more than 394 zettabytes of data will be created in the coming years. This surge, he explained, is fueled by a proliferation of connected sensors, automated systems, and increasingly complex AI models capable of executing tasks with minimal human intervention.
“The challenge is no longer just how to store data, but how to extract real-time value from it,” Vaissade said. “Organizations must adopt storage infrastructures that are fast, scalable, and capable of meeting the demands of emerging technologies.”
In AI-driven environments, the effectiveness of machine learning models and decision-making algorithms hinges on high-performance data storage systems. From initial data ingestion to analysis and inference, each phase of the AI lifecycle depends on seamless, rapid access to vast datasets. According to Vaissade, without robust storage, AI systems cannot operate at optimal capacity, leading to delays in innovation and reduced return on data investments.
He further stressed the importance of adopting hybrid storage models that combine the security and control of on-premises systems with the elasticity of cloud-based platforms. This hybrid approach, he said, offers businesses the flexibility to manage data more efficiently while safeguarding sensitive information and controlling costs.
Sustainability has also become a critical factor in enterprise storage strategies. Vaissade highlighted technologies such as high-capacity drives and advanced cooling systems that minimize energy consumption and environmental impact while maintaining high performance.
