First Asset Management, a subsidiary of FirstHoldCo Plc and a prominent investment manager in the country, has unveiled its “100 Million Smart Investors” campaign, an ambitious initiative aimed at restoring public trust in the capital market and empowering Nigerians with credible investment knowledge.
The campaign comes at a critical time. Despite the immense potential of Nigeria’s investment market, only a small fraction of the adult population actively participates. Statistics reveal that less than 5% of Nigerian adults are engaged in the formal capital market, and just 0.25% invest in mutual funds, figures that starkly contrast with those of more mature markets, such as the United States, where over 50% of adults are involved.
According to First Asset Management, years of misinformation, financial losses, and fraud have created a culture of fear and distrust, sidelining millions from wealth-building opportunities. The new campaign aims to change that narrative.
At the heart of the initiative is a robust financial literacy programme designed to educate, engage, and empower a new wave of investors. The goal is to demystify investment for the average Nigerian by providing accessible, easy-to-understand educational resources, including podcasts, bootcamps, and expert-led discussions.
“Our mission is to rebuild trust and confidence in investing by offering Nigerians the tools and community support they need to make informed financial decisions,” said the company in an official statement. “This is about creating a culture of smart, confident investing that benefits individuals and fuels economic growth.”
Through this initiative, First Asset Management also seeks to foster a strong peer learning environment by building a nationwide community of aspiring investors who can learn from each other and grow together.
The first major event under the campaign will take place on July 26, 2025. Participation is free, and all Nigerians interested in transforming their financial future are encouraged to join.
