After four years of relentless pain and a devastating financial toll, Mrs. Julianna Akamagwuna, a once vibrant businesswoman, is now fighting for her life. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, the disease has rendered her incapacitated, and she now relies entirely on the mercy of others and the grace of God to survive.
From her hospital bed, speaking through excruciating pain, Mrs. Akamagwuna made a tearful appeal to Nigerians:
“I want to live. I know I still have decades ahead of me if only people can help me raise the ₦8 million needed for my treatment. We have sold everything, even our land, and yet the cancer is eating me alive.”
Her condition has worsened dramatically. The cancer, which began in her breast, has now spread to her spinal cord and lungs. Doctors at the National Hospital, Abuja, have recommended a new round of chemotherapy and radiotherapy costing over ₦4.5 million, not including other critical medications and care expenses. The family, having already spent everything they had, is unable to begin the new treatment phase.
Her husband, Mr. Augustine Akamagwuna, recounted their long struggle:
“She underwent 13 rounds of chemotherapy and 10 of radiotherapy. We even spent over ₦1.1 million on platelet transfusions during a three-week admission. But her condition worsened, and doctors later said surgery was no longer an option.”
Mr. Akamagwuna, who lost his job in 2023, says their only hope now lies in the compassion of Nigerians. He is appealing to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ned Nwoko, corporate bodies, faith-based organisations, and the general public for urgent help.
