Following the Federal Government’s filing of criminal charges against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan despite multiple pending petitions she filed earlier this year, the senator’s legal team has expressed concerns about what it describes as an imbalance in the handling of legal matters involving the senator.
The team pointed out that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had submitted twelve petitions between March and May 2025, according to a statement signed by her attorney, Uju Nwoduwu.
The team claims that these petitions address important issues like defamation, threats to life, cyberstalking, and other security-related situations. The statement stated that “the public expects law enforcement and prosecutorial bodies to uphold impartial justice, fairness, and the rule of law.”
The legal team pointed out that although these petitions are still being reviewed or unanswered, the senator has been charged with other offenses. They said that several of the petitions contain allegations of threats and acts of violence against public officials.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has acknowledged official communication and stated that she is prepared to appear in court as soon as an arraignment date is established, notwithstanding the fact that she is currently abroad on personal business.
The legal team said, “She remains fully committed to due process,” thanking the public for their support and advocating for an equitable and open legal system.
The statement closed with a reiterated request for justice to be served equitably and without bias, as well as a call for an unbiased examination of all pending petitions.
