Donald Trump the President-elect has appointed tech mogul Elon Musk and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy to head a newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Tasked with overhauling federal processes, the department’s mission is to cut through bureaucratic obstacles, reduce excessive regulations, and eliminate wasteful spending as part of Trump’s “Save America” agenda.
Operating as an independent advisory body, DOGE will allow Musk and Ramaswamy to suggest reforms directly to the White House without requiring congressional approval. Trump has set an ambitious deadline of July 4, 2026, America’s 250th Independence Day, for DOGE to implement its proposed changes.
“With DOGE, we’re not just aiming to save taxpayer dollars; we’re aiming to bring government into the modern age,” Trump said, likening the initiative’s scale and urgency to a “new Manhattan Project.” He expressed confidence in Musk and Ramaswamy’s combined expertise to achieve lasting improvements in federal operations.
Elon Musk, known for his leadership at Tesla and SpaceX, has long championed government efficiency and previously estimated that he could identify up to $2 trillion in possible spending cuts. Ramaswamy, a former presidential candidate and proponent of private-sector principles, shares Musk’s vision for a leaner, more accountable federal system.
DOGE will function separately from existing government departments but will work closely with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to prioritize impactful changes. By removing bureaucratic delays, DOGE aims to create a faster, more efficient federal system that operates with the agility of the private sector.
As Musk and Ramaswamy prepare to launch their work at DOGE, Trump sees the department as a cornerstone of his administration’s mission to reshape federal governance and make government more responsive to the needs of American citizens.
