The Lagos State Government has announced the closure and redirection of traffic on Eko Bridge to accommodate emergency repairs by the Federal Ministry of Works. According to a statement released on Friday by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the repairs will be conducted in four phases, during which the bridge will be either fully or partially closed, depending on the schedule.
Osiyemi outlined alternative routes for motorists during the closure. For those heading to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue, the service lane at Alaka leading to Costain can be used to access Eko Bridge. Motorists can also connect from Costain to Eko Bridge, linking to Apongbon.
Similarly, motorists can navigate from Apongbon to Eko Bridge, connecting to Costain and Funsho Williams Avenue. Other alternatives include using Costain inwards Alaka or taking Apapa Road from Costain, linking Oyingbo to Adekunle and the Third Mainland Bridge. Surulere-bound motorists are advised to use Costain to connect Breweries, Abebe Village, Eric Moore, or Bode Thomas.
Osiyemi assured residents that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officers will be deployed to both the rehabilitation zones and alternative routes to help manage traffic and reduce delays.
