The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mr Khalil Suleiman Halilu briefing the media during the unveiling of new products from the Agency at its headquarters in Abuja on Thursday May 9, 2024.
Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), recently introduced a range of new products in line with his commitment to bringing NASENI’s innovations to the market.
These products, unveiled at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, May 9, 2024, encompassed the NASENI Laptop, NASENI Android smartphone, NASENI Lithium battery, and NASENI 300watts LED Solar Street Lamp. During the media briefing on the Agency’s activities and achievements aligned with NASENI Strategic Launchpad, Mr. Halilu highlighted that some items were already available in the market, while others had been pre-booked for the remainder of the year.
He also referenced earlier unveilings such as the Solar Irrigation System, Electric Keke, electric Motorcycle, and Solar-powered Cargo Tricycle during the oversight visit by the Senate Committee on NASENI earlier in the year. Mr. Halilu emphasized the demand for Nigerian-branded products in the market and stressed NASENI’s commitment to fulfilling this need.
NASENI, being the sole purpose-built Agency of the Federal Government focused on domesticating technology in both capital and consumer goods, has under Mr. Halilu’s leadership adopted a fast track approach. This approach prioritizes Technology Transfer and Commercialization of its research and development (R&D) products. The overarching goal is to generate employment, foster wealth creation, and decrease import expenditures for the nation.
Halilu outlined the agency’s 3Cs principles of Creation, Collaboration, and Commercialization, emphasizing strategic partnerships with both public and private sectors. These partnerships are instrumental in ensuring that NASENI doesn’t merely conduct research but effectively delivers its products to end users.
“We have identified our partners and also leveraged on existing technology to come up with products that are not only competitive but also market driven. This is to ensure sustainability of the products. We tell the investors to work with us and support industrialization efforts of the country. The key thing we do differently is to take our R&D results (products) to the market.”, he stated.
The briefing emphasized several accomplishments and current initiatives of the Agency, such as the establishment of the NASENI Proposal Evaluation Portal, NASENI Growth Hacker, NASENI ERP, NASENI eProcurement, NASENI StemBox, NASENI Innovation Hub, and projects like PICTT (e.g., Delta2 and DeltHer), among various others.
