To reinforce Nigeria’s cyber infrastructure and bolster digital trust, in alignment with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan 2.0, the Agency is poised to collaborate with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) on National Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). This collaboration aims to enhance digital identity, payment systems, and facilitate secure data exchange nationwide.
Kashifu Inuwa, the Director General of NITDA, highlighted this during a productive visit to his counterpart, Engr. Bisoye Coker-Odusote, Director General of NIMC. Their discussions revolved around initiatives centered on establishing DPI frameworks for secure data exchange and forging partnerships to revamp the national identity system. Inuwa stressed that this collaboration would leverage the potential of the technology innovation ecosystem and emphasized that the use of PKI would drive Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
In addition, Inuwa provided insights into NITDA’s evolving Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan, underscoring the agency’s commitment to continuous improvement. He mentioned the recent re-crafting of NITDA’s vision and mission to align with current industry realities.
Furthermore, Inuwa elaborated on NITDA’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP 2024-2027), which focuses on eight pillars including promoting digital literacy, fostering technology research, enhancing cybersecurity, and cultivating a vibrant organizational culture.
The NIMC’s Director General echoed the enthusiasm for collaboration, emphasizing the necessity of partnerships to achieve shared goals in advancing the digital economy sector. She highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s circular on data integration and harmonization among Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as on PKI for national growth and development.
The meeting culminated in the inauguration of a 12-man committee tasked with kick-starting and harmonizing initiatives. The committee’s mandate includes delivering a comprehensive implementation report in the coming weeks.
