The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has urged the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to cooperate with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and honor their invitation for investigation. The AGF emphasized the importance of allowing the EFCC to carry out its lawful duties without obstruction.
The AGF expressed concern over reported efforts to obstruct the EFCC’s investigation into the ex-governor and highlighted the duty of all individuals, regardless of their status, to comply with such inquiries. He underscored the significance of upholding the rule of law and encouraged cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
The EFCC had previously charged the former governor with alleged financial misconduct amounting to approximately N84 billion. Reports of an attempted arrest at his residence were met with resistance allegedly orchestrated by the current Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo.
The EFCC, through its spokesperson, warned against hindering its operations and emphasized the legal repercussions for obstructing law enforcement duties. The agency vowed to take appropriate actions against any individual or entity that interferes with its investigations in the future.
