A series of cable cuts have caused equipment faults on major undersea cables along the West African Coast, leading to adverse effects on data and fixed telecom services in multiple countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Cote de Ivoire.
The incidents occurred in Cote de’Ivoire and Senegal, with resulting disruptions in Portugal as well.
Key cable companies such as West African Cable System (WACS) and African Coast to Europe (ACE) along the West Coast route from Europe have reported faults, while SAT3 and MainOne have experienced downtime.
Similar undersea cables responsible for traffic from Europe to the East Coast of Africa, such as Seacom, Europe India Gateway (EIG), and Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE1), have also been affected, with cuts reported around the Red Sea, leading to service degradation on these routes.
Internet access and speed in Nigeria and other West African countries have been disrupted due to network issues within the affected countries’ service providers.
Repair efforts by cable operators are underway, with services gradually being restored. They have pledged to work tirelessly to expedite the restoration process for the affected countries.
