President Bola Tinubu is set to inaugurate the newly renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna, along with an agro-processing zone and agricultural equipment on Monday. The renaming of the airport was announced by Governor Umar Bago of Niger State on Friday, marking a significant milestone in the region.
Originally inaugurated by former military Head of State Ibrahim Babangida on June 20, 1990, the airport’s transformation reflects a new era of development and progress under the leadership of Governor Bago and President Tinubu.
The agro-processing zone project, spanning approximately 2,000 hectares, aims to enhance agricultural productivity in the region. With a focus on drip irrigation, greenhouses, and dairy product processing, the initiative is expected to revolutionize the agricultural sector and create employment opportunities while improving the value chain.
Governor Bago highlighted the significance of the project, emphasizing the potential for increased economic growth and sustainability. Plans include the construction of water irrigation channels from Shiroro Dam, spanning about 140 kilometers, to support the agro-processing zone and enhance agricultural operations.
As part of the inauguration activities, President Tinubu is also scheduled to meet with former Heads of State Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, underscoring the collaborative efforts towards advancing infrastructure and development in Minna.
