In response to numerous complaints from residents of Harmony Estate, Aboru, Lagos regarding the disruptive activities of young men congregating at the estate entrance in the mornings and evenings to engage in gambling, selling/smoking hard drugs, and harassing residents while extorting passers-by, law enforcement operatives from Area P, Alagbado conducted extensive surveillance of the area. Subsequently, on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at approximately 0800 hours, they launched an operation to apprehend the troublemakers.
During the operation, eight suspects were apprehended, along with substances suspected to be hard drugs. This led to a confrontation as other miscreants blocked the road, demanding the release of their associates. The situation escalated as the miscreants assaulted the officers. However, the officers called for backup, which arrived promptly, allowing them to safely transport the suspects and evidence to the station.
Upon further investigation at the station, it was determined that four out of the eight arrested individuals were innocent and were subsequently released. The remaining four suspects, identified as Afolabi Joshua (24), Isaiah Omogbolahan (25), Oluwadamilare Kayode (38), and Friday Anamaliu (40), were charged at Ejigbo Magistrate Court on March 1, 2024. The court remanded them in prison custody until March 25, 2024.
Reports circulating that the suspects were arrested for playing Ludo game are entirely false and propagated by some of the miscreants who managed to escape. This misinformation was aimed at distorting the truth and diverting attention from the actual issues at hand.
The Lagos States Police Command reaffirms its commitment to combatting social media misinformation and will continue to fulfill its mandate to uphold law and order while safeguarding the well-being and property of Lagosians.
