Alake and Nasarawa Governor Forge Stronger Collaboration for the Progress of the Mining Sector

Dr. Oladele Alake, the Honorable Minister for Solid Minerals Development, praised Nasarawa State as a valuable partner in advancing mineral resources development in the region and nationwide. During a meeting with Governor Abdullahi Sule on January 18, 2024, Dr. Alake highlighted Governor Sule’s significant support for the construction of a Lithium factory in Nasarawa State. Segun Tomori, the Special Assistant on Media to the Minister, stated that the Minister commended the state’s leading role in collaborating with the Federal Government for solid minerals development.

Emphasizing the Governor’s support for the solid minerals sector, Dr. Alake acknowledged Governor Sule’s technical understanding of the industry and commended his efforts in advancing the sector.

Governor Sule, in Abuja during the meeting, praised the Minister for championing the resurgence of the mining sector and aiding the state in acquiring licenses for gold, tin, and lithium mining. He updated Dr. Alake on the progress of the Lithium factory construction and discussed the ministry’s initiatives to secure mining sites and develop the sector. Governor Sule expressed gratitude for the three licenses obtained by Nasarawa State, emphasizing the importance of Public Private Partnerships (PPP) for efficient management and maximum benefits.

The discussions also touched on the unfortunate explosions in Ibadan, Oyo State, with Dr. Alake highlighting the need for a thorough forensic analysis before attributing a specific cause. He mentioned the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development’s cautious approach to the incident and the formation of a committee at the Federal Executive Council to coordinate security around natural resources.

Governor Abdullahi Sule’s delegation to the Minister’s office included former Governor Tanko Al-Makura, Attorney-General of Nasarawa State, Abdulkarim Kana, and others.
