At least two individuals have lost their lives in a devastating explosion that rocked Aderinola Street, a government residential area in Bodija, Ibadan. Fears are mounting that the death toll could rise as emergency services scramble to respond to the unfolding crisis.

Eyewitness accounts have described the explosion as sending shock waves across the ancient city, leaving residents in a state of disbelief. The incident, which occurred in a government residential area, has resulted in the destruction of property estimated to be worth millions.

Unconfirmed reports circulating on the ground suggest that dangerous explosive materials were warehoused at the residential location, adding a layer of complexity to the already dire situation. Despite the prompt deployment of emergency response teams, including fire operatives, the efforts have, so far, failed to yield the desired results.

As of the time of filing this report on Tuesday night, ongoing efforts are still being made to rescue victims trapped under the rubble. The situation remains critical, and local authorities are grappling with the magnitude of the incident.

In a statement released on Monday, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, disclosed that the governor has taken swift action. Security service chiefs, including paramilitary leaders and fire operatives, have been deployed to the scene to rein in the spillover effects of the explosion.

The deployment of these resources aims to enhance the ongoing rescue efforts and mitigate the potential fallout from the tragic incident. The community, along with the entire Oyo State capital, is now anxiously awaiting further updates as authorities work tirelessly to manage the aftermath of this devastating explosion.

“Residents of Ibadan and immediate environ experienced an uncommon explosion about 8pm this evening.

“There are various  interpretations of the incident but it is important for us to state categorically that the state government has taken over and in full control of the unfortunate occurrence in order to mitigate the incident.

“All security service chiefs including para military chiefs and fire operatives have been deployed by the governor to reign-in the spillover from the explosion.

“His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde therefore implores citizens to calm down and rest assured that their interests are being looked after,” Prince Dotun Oyelade stated.
