NDPC Prepares to Launch Registration Portal Empowering Data Controllers and Processors

With the aim of bolstering data protection in Nigeria, the National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr. Vincent Olatunji, announced the commission’s achievement of engaging with 163 Data Protection Compliance Organizations (DPCOs).

Dr. Olatunji highlighted the collaborative efforts between NDPC and DPCOs, emphasizing their pivotal role in achieving the commission’s objectives in a remarkably short period. The disclosure took place during a meeting convened by the commission, where representatives of DPCOs were present. The primary focus of the meeting was the strategic deliberation on the registration portal for Data Controllers and Processors.

According to a statement issued by the DPCOs, the National Commissioner underscored the significance of establishing necessary measures and seeking input from DPCOs before initiating the registration process for Data Controllers and Data Processors, leading to the unveiling of the registration portal.

The meeting provided a platform for addressing queries and comments, ensuring the meticulous development of a well-constructed registration portal that aligns with the evolving landscape of data protection.

Dr Olatunji further affirmed the crucial role of DPCOs as key partners in the registration process and various initiatives of the Commission. He disclosed that the Commission is actively formulating additional guidelines and regulations to fortify the Data Protection culture in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive and robust framework.

The disclosure signals a significant step forward in Nigeria’s commitment to data protection, with the NDPC actively engaging stakeholders and fostering collaboration to establish a resilient and effective data protection ecosystem in the country.
