Nigeria Police Force Denounces Misleading Publication on NPF Sports Levy as a Calculated Attempt to Undermine Police Integrity

Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has strongly refuted recent claims made by certain media outlets regarding the NPF sports levy deduction, labeling them as baseless and intended to deceive the public and tarnish the integrity of the Force.

While the NPF does not wish to engage with unprofessionalism and falsehoods propagated by the media, it feels compelled to address the baseless and misleading news that aims to malign the person and integrity of the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD., NPM, concerning the Police Annual Sports Levy deduction. The NPF clarifies that the police sports activities have been primarily funded through an annual deduction, a tradition that has been in place for a significant period. This practice was consolidated in 2003 and reviewed by the management of the Force in 2012. It is important to note that the deduction attributed to the new Acting IGP was approved several months prior to his appointment.

The attempt to sensationalize this long-standing annual practice and attribute it solely to the current Inspector General of Police is not only mischievous but also undermines the aforementioned facts. The dissemination of this disinformation by certain individuals aims to mislead the public and distort the truth, creating unnecessary mischief. The Force urges both the public and media outlets to verify information before spreading baseless claims that seek to tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force. Moreover, the Force encourages well-meaning Nigerians to disregard this malicious publication.
