NCC CEO Umar Danbatta Honored with Public Sector Personality of the Decade Award

Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), was presented with the prestigious National Daily Newspaper Public Sector Personality of the Decade award. The award ceremony, known as the “National Daily Award of Excellence,” took place at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos. Prince Julius Adelusi, the founder of Juli Pharmacy, chaired the event, and former President Olusegun Obasanjo delivered the keynote address as the special guest of honor.

Due to prior engagements, Danbatta was represented at the ceremony by Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs. Muoka expressed gratitude to the organizers for the recognition and emphasized that the award serves as a reminder of the need to continue working towards good governance, national development, and economic growth. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to collaboration with stakeholders within and beyond the Nigerian communications industry, recognizing it as a vital means to facilitate positive change in the country’s economy.

Sylvester Ebhodage, the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of National Daily/National Standard Magazine, presented the award. Ebhodage highlighted Danbatta’s remarkable contributions to the advancement of Nigeria’s telecom sector. Under Danbatta’s leadership, the NCC has successfully stabilized the telecom industry and bolstered the telecommunications sector’s role as a significant contributor to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth. Furthermore, Danbatta’s efforts have attracted substantial investments into Nigeria’s telecoms sector.

In his speech, Ebhodage expressed appreciation for prominent public figures and dignitaries whose actions have positively impacted society. He also emphasized the importance of recognizing individuals whose contributions often go unnoticed, highlighting their invaluable efforts in uplifting humanity
