…Equips Previous Scholarship Graduates
MTN Foundation has awarded 360 undergraduate scholarships throughout 11 states in Nigeria’s South-South and South-East geopolitical zones.
The foundation is a subsidiary of MTN Group Limited, a mobile telecommunications behemoth.
Dennis Okoro, the Foundation’s Director, revealed the scholarships at an award ceremony held by the foundation in Owerri on Wednesday for the incoming scholars for the year 2022.
Mr Okoro, who noted that each of the winners will receive N200,000 in total, revealed that the organization had spent N3 billion in 4,212 scholarship recipients between 2011 and 2022.
The scholarships, he said, were designed to encourage academic performance and provide possibilities for continuous self-improvement as well as access to resources.
Mr Okoro urged on well-meaning Nigerians to join with the foundation for youth empowerment and development, stating that the recipients were chosen on merit from tertiary institutions throughout the country.
As part of our social investment responsibility, the MTN Foundation awards scholarships to high-achieving students enrolled full-time in scientific and technology-related courses, as well as blind students enrolled in any field at public tertiary institutions.”
“The grantees have all earned it after competing against more than 50,000 other applications.” So we’re here to welcome them and induct those who have already graduated and completed the program,” he explained.
The scholarships will give financial support to the grantees, according to Innocent Entonu, the Foundation’s General Manager for Sales and Promotions, South-East and South-South. He stated that it would encourage students to continue pursuing the greatest education possible in order to ensure a secure future for themselves and the country as a whole.
Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma also expressed gratitude to the foundation for hosting the event in the state and giving back to society.
Mr. Uzodimma, who was represented by Eric Uwakwe, his Special Adviser on Youngsters, stated his willingness to work with the foundation to improve the welfare of youths in the state and across the country. Obinna Onyeishi, a blind 300-level law student at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, expressed her gratitude to the organization and swore to be unaffected by her vision impairment.
The highpoint of the event was the presentation of cheques to the awardees by officials of the foundation.
