Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent six-week suspension of the four programs within the National Social Investment Programmes Agency (NSIPA), a Special Presidential Panel has been approved by the Nigerian leader.
According to reports from Consumer Connect, the Presidency announced over the weekend that Mr. Wale Edun, the Honourable Minister for Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, will lead the Panel. Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, conveyed that the Special Presidential Panel’s primary task is to conduct a comprehensive review and audit of existing financial frameworks and policy guidelines governing the social investment programs.
The Federal Government aims to implement a total re-engineering of the financial architecture of these programs, introducing detailed modifications to enhance the procedures guiding their implementation in the future.
The composition of the Special Presidential Panel reflects a multi-disciplinary approach, with members representing strategic sectors. The panel includes:
(1)Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance – Chairman
(2) Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare – Member
(3) Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning – Member
(4) Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation – Member
(5) Honourable Minister of Communicatons, Innovation and Digital Economy – Member
(6) Honourable Minister of State for Youth – Member
The Presidential Spokesman emphasized President Tinubu’s expectation that the Special Presidential Panel will restore lost public confidence in these crucial programs. The panel is anticipated to usher in a new era of operation based on open and accountable governance frameworks, ensuring resilience against abuse and incompetence for the exclusive benefit of disadvantaged households across the nation.
