During a news briefing held on Monday in Doma, Major Joseph Afolasade, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 4 Special Forces Command located in Doma, disclosed: “On Aug. 5, 2023 at about 11pm, troops of the command intercepted three suspected railtrack vandals during a routine patrol at Kwarra community of Keana LGA.
“The suspects were arrested with large quantity of railtracks loaded in one 18-tyre truck with Registration Number DED 364 YC.”
Indicating that the suspects put forth a claim of being misled by their still-fleeing sponsors, Major Joseph Afolasade, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 4 Special Forces Command in Doma, conveyed during the news briefing that initial inquiries uncovered the events of August 23rd. On that day, Chibuki Akubilo, the truck driver, was reportedly enlisted to transport the damaged railtracks to Ilorin in Kwara for a payment of ₦1.6 million.
Furthermore, Major Joseph Afolasade highlighted that the approval for the transfer of the suspects to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for an extended investigation and subsequent legal proceedings had been granted by Major General Hillary Nzan, the Commander of the Special Forces. Acting in accordance with this decision, he then formally relinquished custody of the suspects to the representative from the NSCDC’s state command.
In response, Mr. Jerry Victor, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, expressed appreciation to the Army for their collaborative efforts with the corps in addressing the prevailing security challenges in the state.
“Usually, this type of crime is being committed by a syndicate,” Victor stated.
Assuring the continuation of the investigative process, Major Joseph Afolasade pledged the ongoing efforts to apprehend the remaining individuals affiliated with the group, with the intention of bringing them to justice.
The driver of the truck, in his interaction with journalists, recounted that he had been contacted by an individual named Mr. Charles to transport the items to Ilorin.
