The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) has announced its plans to host the highly anticipated 2023 Telecoms Executives and Regulators Forum. The event is scheduled to take place at the prestigious Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos on September 7, 2023.
This year’s forum promises to be unique, featuring distinguished keynote speakers and industry thought leaders who will address critical topics in the telecom sector. Prof. Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), will present a keynote address on “Critical National Infrastructure Policy as a Strategic Tool for attracting rapid investment to the sector” and “Challenges to Universal Broadband and Digital Services in Nigeria – Empowering Industry SME’s.” Dr. Vincent Olatunji, the National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigerian Data Protection Commission, is also expected to deliver a keynote address on the “Impact of Data Protection Policy on the Development of the Nigerian Digital Economy.”
Additionally, thought leaders in the industry have been invited to chair various panel sessions. Notable figures such as Ms. Funke Opeke, MD/CEO of MainOne, Mr. Mohamad Darwish, CEO of IHS Nigeria, and Mr. Biodun Omoniyi, Group Managing Director of VDT Communications, will moderate discussions on topics including the impact of data protection policy, critical national infrastructure policy, and challenges to universal broadband and digital services, particularly in empowering industry SMEs. CEOs from various companies will also serve as panelists during the event.
The Nigerian telecoms and ICT sector contributes over 14% to the nation’s GDP. However, the sector faces challenges that hinder its full potential. ATCON aims to utilize this platform to address these challenges and shed light on issues that have impeded progress in the industry.
