The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) have moved to bolster cybersecurity safeguards following recent concerns surrounding elements of CAC’s digital infrastructure.
In a coordinated response, both agencies confirmed the activation of protective and assurance measures aligned with national cybersecurity standards, aimed at preserving system integrity and safeguarding critical government platforms.
NITDA emphasized the urgency for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to strengthen their cybersecurity posture in line with the National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy (NCPS) 2021. The agency stressed that proactive risk management is essential to counter the growing sophistication of cyber threats targeting public sector systems.
As part of the directive, MDAs have been instructed to immediately evaluate their existing security frameworks and implement necessary upgrades to address vulnerabilities. This includes conducting thorough system audits, tightening access controls, and reinforcing protective mechanisms for sensitive data.
Agencies are also expected to enhance their data protection protocols by ensuring reliable backup systems and disaster recovery plans are in place. Improved monitoring and threat detection capabilities have been identified as critical to identifying and responding swiftly to suspicious activities.
Furthermore, NITDA highlighted the importance of establishing effective incident response structures, including timely reporting of cybersecurity breaches to enable coordinated intervention and mitigation.
The agency disclosed that detailed implementation guidelines have already been provided to MDAs as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen resilience across Nigeria’s public sector digital ecosystem.
These measures, according to NITDA, are designed to fortify government institutions against cyber risks while ensuring the continued protection of national digital assets.
Reaffirming its commitment, the agency pledged continued support to public institutions in enhancing cybersecurity capacity and promoting best practices across government systems.
