The school break is often seen as a time for students to unwind, but it can also open the door to something far more impactful. This year, that opportunity is provided by InterswitchSPAK, one of Nigeria’s leading national science competitions, created to identify and support the next generation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) leaders.
Now in its eighth edition, InterswitchSPAK continues to discover, nurture, and reward some of the nation’s most brilliant Year 11 (SS2) students; those with a strong passion for STEM and the ambition to excel. With registrations still open, this year introduces a major update: students can now be enrolled not only through their schools but also directly by parents and guardians. This expanded entry option is aimed at ensuring that more gifted students, regardless of their circumstances, are given the chance to participate in this life-changing initiative.
At its core, InterswitchSPAK is much more than a competition. Over the years, it has grown into a trusted platform that creates real, lasting opportunities, shaping students’ academic journeys and future careers while giving them the visibility, confidence, and support needed to pursue STEM aspirations. What makes the programme unique is the scale of its impact. It goes beyond academic performance or exam success, opening doors to higher education, mentorship, and life-changing opportunities.
This season raises the stakes even higher, with over ₦40 million in scholarships available, reinforcing its strong commitment to rewarding excellence. The overall winner will receive a ₦15 million tertiary scholarship spread over five years, plus monthly stipends, while the first and second runners-up will get ₦10 million and ₦5 million scholarships respectively. In addition, all nine finalists will be rewarded with laptops and other cash prizes, ensuring that outstanding performance at every stage is fully recognised and celebrated.
More importantly, the impact extends beyond the students. Teachers of the top 9 participants are also awarded cash prizes, highlighting the vital role educators play in shaping future innovators. It is a holistic approach that celebrates excellence across the entire learning ecosystem.
As a programme, InterswitchSPAKs reflects a broader vision, one where merit, curiosity, and hard work are rewarded, and where every student has a fair chance to succeed. Its transparent, technology-driven process ensures a level playing field for participants across Nigeria. For students, this is an opportunity to test their knowledge, build confidence, and gain national recognition. For parents, it is a chance to actively support and unlock their children’s potential. And for schools, it remains a powerful platform to showcase academic excellence.
Registration for InterswitchSPAK 8.0 is now open and will close on May 24, 2026. Eligible students are encouraged to apply at www.interswitchspak.com.
