Moruf Oseni; the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, has declared March 4, 2026, as the official date of its 2026 IWD Grand Event. The global IWD 2026 theme, “Give To Gain,” served as the inspiration for this year’s celebration and the event will be held under the sub-theme “When Women Gain, We Grow,” which emphasizes the bank’s dedication to supporting women and amplifying the impact of persistent efforts toward gender inclusion.

He stated that the bank has continuously prioritized gender inclusion through intentional initiatives and opportunities specifically designed for women, adding that the 2019 launch of SARA by Wema; the bank’s women-focused proposition, reflects its long-standing commitment to advancing gender equality in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 5.

Oseni said that the bank’s ongoing investment in women has demonstrated the transformative potential that women possess on both a personal and professional level, making the 2026 IWD subject especially important. The 2026 IWD event will bring together women from a variety of sectors and industries, including up-and-coming female leaders overcoming modern obstacles.

The purpose of the event is to reinforce the importance of investing in women by offering a forum for networking, knowledge exchange, and discussion of similar and different experiences.

The event’s highlights include the SARA Gives to Empower Her Award, which will give grants to women who have had a significant impact on other women; the employee-focused He for She Award, which honors male employees who have shown exceptional support for women beyond monetary contributions; and the Wema Knight Gives initiative, which will allow staff members to engage in outreach initiatives that benefit women throughout Nigeria.

Conclusively, the Wema Bank Girl Child Journal, a thoughtful periodical that gathers advice and insights for girls from 80 contributors in a variety of areas, will be launched at the event.
