LAWMA Hosts 2024 Christmas Carol and End-of-Year Thanksgiving

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) celebrated its annual Christmas Carol and End-of-Year Thanksgiving Service, marking a day of gratitude and reflection for God’s goodness and blessings in the outgoing year.

The event, held at LAWMA’s headquarters in Ijora-Olopa, brought together the authority’s management team, staff, neighbors, friends, and well-wishers for a memorable occasion.

In his welcome address, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, expressed heartfelt gratitude for God’s mercies and blessings despite the challenges of the year. He remarked: “Today is not a day for speeches but a day for praises and thanksgiving. I appreciate God for His mercies and blessings upon the staff of LAWMA, and I pray He will continue to preserve us as we dedicate our time to service.”

Dr. Gbadegesin also commended LAWMA staff for their dedication and urged them to maintain their commitment to excellence. He extended warm wishes to Lagos residents for a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, encouraging them to support the authority’s efforts by fulfilling their environmental responsibilities to keep Lagos clean and livable.

The Executive Director of Finance, Mr. Kunle Adebiyi, echoed these sentiments, thanking God for the preservation of staff lives and emphasizing the importance of continual gratitude. He also acknowledged Dr. Gbadegesin’s contributions to advancing waste management operations in Lagos State.

Delivering the sermon on the theme “With a Grateful Heart,” Mr. Olawumi Oluwaseyi, the chapel’s president, urged attendees to consistently express gratitude to God for His protection and blessings, entrusting the authority and its staff into God’s care for continued grace and mercy.

The event featured Bible readings from key management members:

  • Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin (Genesis 3:8-15)
  • Mr. Kunle Adebiyi (Genesis 22:15-18)
  • Other contributors included Mrs. Folashade Kadiri (Head, Public Affairs), Mr. Adewumi Adetona (Head, Advocacy), Dr. Essien Nsuabia (Head, Waste Management Development Research), and others.

Highlights of the celebration included a special song ministration by guest minister Sarah Apekeola, hymns and songs performed by the Emmanuel Chapel Choir, and a choreographic presentation by the children’s group of the chapel.

The event closed with a resounding sense of gratitude and joy, reinforcing LAWMA’s commitment to its mission of fostering a clean and sustainable Lagos.
