The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has announced the addition of two new award categories—Tech Mentor of the Year and Cybersecurity Advocate of the Year—for its upcoming 2024 National Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA). This addition was revealed by NCS President, Dr. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu, during a press briefing, signaling the Society’s commitment to evolving with industry needs.
The NCS, recognized as Nigeria’s largest IT professional body with over 20,000 members, has led the IT sector for more than 40 years, supporting growth, professional development, and industry standards. Dr. Aliyu shared that NCS is committed to “promoting IT development and enhancing corporate relevance” while recognizing outstanding individuals and organizations that are making significant contributions to Nigeria’s technology landscape.
The 2024 NITMA ceremony is scheduled for November 21, 2024, at the MUSON Centre in Lagos, where it will highlight contributions across various fields of IT, including the newly added categories. This year’s award categories include:
- IT Personality of the Year
- Digital Governor of the Year
- IT Gold Medal Award
- Youth Innovation Award
- IT Company of the Year
- Tech Mentor of the Year (New)
- Cybersecurity Advocate of the Year (New)
- Recognition Awards
Mrs. Shulammite Ayobami Ilebiyi, Chair of the Publicity, Events, and Trade Services Committee, noted that the mentorship and cybersecurity categories were thoughtfully added to address growing priorities within the IT field, with an emphasis on leadership and security in the digital age.
As part of the NITMA tradition, the ceremony will also confer Professional and Honorary Fellowships on distinguished NCS members and IT industry champions.
