Babcock University has set a new benchmark in cybersecurity education with its groundbreaking partnership with ThinkCyber Nigeria. This collaboration aims to equip students with world-class cybersecurity training, aligning with global standards and preparing them for the rapidly evolving tech industry.
The partnership between Babcock’s School of Computing and Business School has introduced an advanced, cyber simulator-driven platform that blends academic theory with hands-on experience. This innovative approach ensures that graduates not only receive top-tier education but also practical skills and industry-recognized certifications, making them highly competitive in the job market.
In January 2024, 34 third-year students began their six-month Industrial Training as part of this initiative. By the end of the program, they became ThinkCyber Certified Cybersecurity Professionals, ready to address real-world cybersecurity challenges. The initiative was spearheaded by the School of Computing under the leadership of former Dean, Prof. Idowu Sunday, who is currently on sabbatical in Rwanda.
In September 2024, Babcock Business School took the initiative further by launching an Advanced Professional Cyber Simulator Training, under the leadership of its Dean, Prof. Ishola Akintoye. This advanced program caters to the growing demand for cybersecurity experts across Africa and has attracted both local and international professionals, including MSc students, eager to enhance their skills.
The training exposes participants to key cybersecurity tools such as Elastic Search, SPLUNK, Snort, and Pfsense, preparing them for roles both locally and globally. Graduates are also integrated into esteemed bodies like the Cyber Security Experts Association of Nigeria (CSEAN), adding to their professional credibility.
Alumni from the program have already made impressive strides in the workforce, transitioning smoothly into Tier 2 cybersecurity roles. Their success underscores the real-world applicability of the skills gained through Babcock’s innovative training.
Basit Balogun, a cybersecurity professional and program graduate, shared his experience: “The training I received from ThinkCyber Nigeria was transformative. From the foundational sessions to the advanced Cyberium Arena challenges, I was able to quickly transition from a beginner to a confident cybersecurity professional.”
Oluwademilade Adeyemo, another graduate, expressed similar sentiments: “The Cyberium Arena was an incredible learning environment.
