A new mobile app, SmartEdge, has been launched to support students preparing for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams. Developed under the leadership of Jennifer Joseph, SmartEdge aims to empower students with essential academic tools by offering a comprehensive database of past exam questions and other resources.
Jennifer’s experience as a youth corps member teaching in a rural school in Kaduna State inspired the creation of SmartEdge. She saw firsthand the challenges students face due to a lack of quality study materials. “I saw how eager students were to learn, yet they lacked the materials to help them succeed,” she shared. This motivated her to create a solution that could bridge this gap.
WAEC and JAMB are pivotal exams that determine the academic and professional futures of many Nigerian students. Yet, access to study materials and adequate preparation remains a significant hurdle, especially for those in under-resourced communities. SmartEdge was designed to address this problem by making effective study tools easily accessible to all students, regardless of their location or financial situation.
“Every student deserves the chance to succeed,” said Jennifer. “SmartEdge is here to support them in their educational journey, helping them prepare confidently for WAEC and JAMB.”
At the core of SmartEdge is a vast repository of past exam questions from both WAEC and JAMB, covering key subjects such as Mathematics, English, Sciences, and Social Studies. The app leverages artificial intelligence to tailor study sessions based on each student’s strengths and weaknesses, allowing them to focus on areas where they need the most improvement. This personalized approach enhances learning and retention, giving students a better chance to excel.
One of the app’s standout features is its smart question bank, which allows students to select a subject and receive a set of relevant past questions, complete with detailed solutions and explanations. This interactive feature not only helps students practice effectively but also deepens their understanding of key concepts by breaking down the reasoning behind each answer.
Designed with a user-friendly interface, SmartEdge accommodates students of all ages, making study sessions engaging and enjoyable. Whether waiting in line or taking a break, students can make the most of every minute to prepare.
“Exams can be stressful, and we want to help students manage that stress,” Jennifer noted. “SmartEdge lets students take as many practice tests as they want, allowing them to become familiar with the exam format and boosting their confidence.”
In addition to its extensive question bank, SmartEdge offers an AI-driven feedback system that evaluates students’ performance after each session. This system provides personalized recommendations, helping students identify areas for improvement and turn mistakes into learning opportunities.
For students seeking structured preparation, SmartEdge also offers customizable study timetables. These timetables track progress and help students stay organized, ensuring they cover all necessary material well ahead of their exam dates.
