The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has finalized the rehabilitation of Olusosun dumpsite as the rainy season approaches, aiming to facilitate smooth waste disposal operations throughout the state.

Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, emphasized this in a statement on Thursday, highlighting the rehabilitation’s purpose to enhance operational efficiency ahead of the rainy season.

He explained, “Our main goal in refurbishing Olusosun dumpsite is to ensure unhindered movement of waste disposal trucks, particularly during adverse weather conditions such as heavy rainfall, which often pose logistical challenges.”

Dr. Gbadegesin underscored LAWMA’s commitment to improving operational efficiency, mentioning ongoing efforts to streamline waste disposal truck turnaround times. He added that the rehabilitation would notably reduce queue durations, leading to swifter and more efficient waste collection services.

“We encourage residents to patronise accredited Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators for their waste disposal needs. By supporting licensed operators, individuals contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for all”, he reiterated.

The Managing Director underscored the significance of residents acquainting themselves with their PSPs, pivotal players in local waste management. He added that by comprehending and engaging with their designated PSP operators, residents could guarantee efficient and effective waste disposal services in their communities.

“We are committed to facilitating this process by publishing detailed PSP contacts for all areas in the state. This initiative aims to empower residents to take ownership of waste management practices in their neighborhoods, ultimately contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment for all”, he assured.
