In an extensive intelligence-led operation aimed at stamping out violent gang activities across the state, law enforcement officers attached to the Lagos State Police Command have successfully tracked down and apprehended three suspected cultists operating within the Imota district of Ikorodu. The strategic raid led to the discovery and recovery of an impressive arsenal of illegal firearms, live ammunition, and lethal weapons that were actively being used to terrorize local communities.
The targeted operation was initiated after the command received actionable and credible intelligence from vigilant members of the public who raised concerns regarding the ongoing activities of suspected cult elements within the Imota axis. Acting swiftly on the community-generated information, tactical police operatives stormed the identified location and caught the suspects off guard. Among those taken into custody during the operation was thirty-seven-year-old Jelili Adeyemo, a male who is alleged to serve as the primary armourer for the syndicate, responsible for storing and maintaining the group’s weaponry. Alongside him, law enforcement officers also apprehended forty-two-year-old Bisoye Adewale and sixty-year-old John Okeafo.
A comprehensive search of the premises yielded an extensive collection of dangerous weapons and tactical gear. The recovered exhibits formally cataloged by the police include one Beretta pistol, one locally fabricated pistol, seven traditional Dane guns, ten live ammunition cartridges, seven expended cartridges, one stun gun, two pairs of handcuffs, and four cutlasses, in addition to several other incriminating items.
Preliminary investigations conducted by state detectives confirmed that the three apprehended men are active members of the infamous Aiye Confraternity. Furthermore, investigators established that the recovered Beretta pistol is linked to a notorious cult leader locally known as “Mayibone,” who is currently evading arrest and has been declared at large. Following their arrest, the police confirmed that the suspects have already been formally arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction and remanded in custody. Meanwhile, specialized tactical teams remain deployed on the ground as intensive efforts continue to track down and apprehend remaining fleeing gang members and retrieve any remaining concealed weaponry.
Reacting to the successful tactical intervention, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other violent crimes across the State. He urged residents to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information to aid ongoing crime-fighting efforts.
