In a landmark move aimed at strengthening customer trust and promoting greater transparency in mobile data consumption, MTN Nigeria successfully hosted “Data on Trial,” a first-of-its-kind public engagement platform designed to address customer concerns surrounding data usage, billing transparency, and digital consumption.

Held on Saturday, June 6, the innovative forum brought together customers, media practitioners, content creators, technology experts, device manufacturers, and independent auditors for an open and transparent discussion on how mobile data is measured, consumed, and billed across MTN’s network.

Speaking at the event, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Olutokun Toriola, emphasized the company’s commitment to transparency and customer-centricity in an increasingly digital society.

According to him, the initiative was built on a simple but powerful belief—that trust grows when customers have access to accurate information and are empowered to make informed decisions.

“Data on Trial was created based on a simple belief. Trust with our customers grows when they are given access to information and allowed to make up their minds about it. Today’s event is an opportunity for everyone to understand the facts, understand the technology behind what delivers connectivity in real time, and ask the most difficult questions while hearing different perspectives,” Toriola stated.

The event provided a unique opportunity for stakeholders to examine the technical processes behind mobile connectivity and data consumption while engaging directly with experts and industry professionals. Participants were encouraged to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and gain a deeper understanding of the factors that influence data usage on mobile devices and networks.

Beyond the event itself, MTN Nigeria noted that Data on Trial marks the beginning of a broader customer education and transparency campaign. The telecommunications company disclosed plans to roll out a series of educational materials, practical demonstrations, expert insights, and consumer-focused content in the coming weeks to help subscribers better understand their data usage patterns and optimize their digital experiences.

MTN further explained that the conversations, feedback, and concerns raised during the session would play a critical role in shaping future customer engagement initiatives, reinforcing the company’s commitment to listening to customers and fostering meaningful dialogue.

As digital connectivity continues to play an increasingly important role in everyday life, MTN Nigeria reaffirmed its dedication to placing customers at the center of its operations while creating more opportunities for open, honest, and constructive engagement.

The successful hosting of Data on Trial underscores MTN Nigeria’s determination to build stronger customer relationships through transparency, education, and continuous engagement, setting a new benchmark for customer communication within the telecommunications industry.
