GLO Honours Awujale Adetona’s Enduring Legacy At Ojude Oba 2026

Leading digital and telecommunications company, Globacom, has paid glowing tribute to the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, during the 2026 edition of the globally celebrated Ojude Oba Festival. The event marks the 21st consecutive year of the company’s support for the cultural celebration.

This year’s festival, themed “Ojude Oba 2026: Celebrating the Legacy of Oba Sikiru Adetona,” is being held at the Festival Arena opposite the royal palace in Ijebu Ode. The celebration is dedicated to honouring the remarkable life and achievements of the revered monarch, who passed on July 13, 2025, after an extraordinary 65-year reign.

In a statement issued in Lagos, Globacom noted that Oba Adetona’s unwavering commitment to preserving and promoting Ijebu culture, traditions, and values inspired the company’s long-standing partnership with the festival.

According to the company, its participation in this year’s edition goes beyond sponsorship and represents a heartfelt tribute to a monarch whose vision transformed Ojude Oba into one of Nigeria’s most respected and internationally recognized cultural festivals.

Globacom stated that the late monarch played a pivotal role in elevating the festival into a powerful symbol of unity, bringing together Ijebu sons and daughters from across the world, irrespective of religion or social background.

The company added that its continuous support over the past two decades has contributed significantly to the growth and global recognition of Ojude Oba, attracting dignitaries, tourists, and cultural enthusiasts from within and outside Nigeria.

Reaffirming its commitment to the promotion of Nigeria’s cultural heritage, Globacom emphasized that it will continue to support initiatives that showcase the nation’s rich traditions and cultural identity on the global stage.

Oba Adetona, who ascended the throne on April 2, 1960, remains one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning traditional rulers. Under his leadership, Ojude Oba evolved into a major cultural spectacle and a proud symbol of the rich heritage of the Ijebu people.
