Oreoluwa Alayande, the winner of the 2025 mPulse Spelling Bee Competition, attended St. Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ado Ekiti, which has received a digital upgrade from telecom behemoth; MTN Nigeria.
Alayande, a second-year senior in high school, defeated thousands of competitors nationwide to win the 2025 MTN mPulse Spelling Bee Competition. In addition to honoring the 14-year-old winner, MTN Sales and Trade Development Manager, Ekiti; Chinyere Ikechi stated that the upgrade was an investment in the school that fostered such talent.
Ikechi delivered a N10 million intervention project to the school on Saturday during a small meeting in Ado Ekiti that included family members, Ekiti State Government representatives, and school employees and pupils. Ten newly installed air conditioners for the computer lab, a 30kW lithium inverter battery system, ten brand-new laptops, ten broadband devices, and further educational gift items were among the products. Additionally, Oreoluwa received a formal ₦5 million educational award certificate on the occasion, which will be used to pay for her secondary and postsecondary studies.
Gbenga Julius, the winner’s coach, received a ₦500,000 cash prize in appreciation for being the unseen force behind her accomplishment, underscoring MTN’s dedication to honoring the teachers who guide Nigeria’s greatest brains. Lawrence Oluwafemi, the school’s owner, expressed gratitude to MTN for its support of children’s intellectual growth and promised that the institution will uphold its high standards. Impressed by the advancement and notoriety Alayande’s skill had brought to the institution, Oluwafemi announced a scholarship that would cover her tuition till she finished her studies there.
Alayande praised the school and her coach for their dedication, discipline, and special teaching style, which she claimed “have not just shaped me but many other students. Mrs. Justinah Alayande; mother to the winner, praised MTN for the program aimed at influencing the next generation and advancing the nation.
