The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced extensive waste evacuation operations along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway corridor, urging residents, traders, and transport operators to channel refuse through designated Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators.
The directive was announced by the Lagos State Government in an official statement, as authorities intensified efforts to restore environmental order along the busy highway.
Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed during an inspection of identified blackspots that the cleanup forms part of a wider compliance and sustainability campaign aimed at tackling indiscriminate dumping.
According to him, the agency has deployed heavy-duty trucks, loaders, and operational teams to clear accumulated waste at major illegal dump sites, particularly around Alaba Rago. He emphasised that residents and business operators must strictly adhere to environmental regulations by patronising assigned PSP operators for proper waste disposal.
The cleanup exercise covered several strategic points including Orile, Doyin, Alaba Rago, Agric, Barracks Iyana-Iba, and Agbara. Authorities confirmed that similar interventions will continue across other waste-prone locations along the corridor.
LAWMA reiterated that sustained environmental discipline and community cooperation remain essential to maintaining cleanliness and preventing a recurrence of illegal dumping across the axis.
