Police Detain Social Media Influencer After Livestreamed Reckless Driving Incident in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has taken into custody social media personality Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, over a reckless driving incident that was broadcast live on social media and resulted in a serious road crash.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, drew widespread public concern after a video surfaced showing the influencer driving dangerously while livestreaming, ultimately leading to a motor accident. Police authorities said the act posed grave danger to the suspect himself as well as other innocent road users.

Following the incident, Peller was arrested and is currently being held for further investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The police confirmed that findings from the investigation will be made public and that the suspect will be arraigned in court in accordance with existing laws.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, condemned the growing trend of dangerous stunts carried out for online attention, warning influencers and content creators against abusing social media platforms to promote unlawful or life-threatening behaviour.

He stressed that public safety remains a top priority and assured residents that anyone found engaging in reckless or criminal acts, online or offline, will be dealt with decisively. The Command also reminded motorists to obey traffic laws at all times, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining peace, order, and safety across Lagos State.
