MTN is shining a light on Trashcoin, one of the 20 bold startups in its 12-week Cloud Accelerator Programme, as it transforms the way Nigerians think about waste.

Founded by Olamide Phebe Ilesanmi and her team, Trashcoin is redefining sustainability by turning plastics, paper, and metals into financial power for everyday Nigerians. Through its digital recycling platform, users can trade recyclables for electricity, school fees, healthcare, and other essential services, creating real value from what was once discarded.

Beyond local impact, Trashcoin is bridging Africa to the global carbon credit market, ensuring recyclables are traceable, export-ready, and transparently reported for verified environmental impact.

As part of MTN’s commitment to fostering digital innovation across Africa, the accelerator programme provides Trashcoin and other startups with the tools, mentorship, and cloud technology to scale solutions that drive sustainable growth.

Trashcoin isn’t just changing how we manage waste, it’s proving that technology and sustainability can build both greener cities and stronger communities.
