The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has advanced its flagship Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL) initiative with the training of 3,600 teachers across Nigeria, equipping them with essential skills to deliver 21st-century education.
Following two weeks of intensive virtual sessions, NITDA on September 18, 2025, commenced a two-day physical training in Abuja for teachers representing the 36 states and the FCT. The Abuja programme provides hands-on, practical learning and introduces a train-the-trainer model that empowers selected participants as Master Trainers. These trainers will cascade their knowledge to colleagues in their respective states, multiplying the programme’s long-term impact.
The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), reflecting a united front in strengthening Nigeria’s education sector through technology.
Teachers participating in the training described the experience as transformative. Tanko Abdulkareem from Kuje Area Council said the programme broadened his digital knowledge and would enhance his ability to support colleagues and students. Muhammad Ademu of AMAC called it “a timely, life-changing intervention,” while Bamidele Gbenga Samuel, of Government Secondary School, Gwagwalada, highlighted its role in bridging the digital divide in classrooms. Veronica Miapie, from the FCT Secondary Education Board, added that digital literacy is now a necessity, not a choice, for both teachers and learners.
Through its Digital Literacy and Capacity Building (DLCB) department, NITDA continues to align Nigeria’s education sector with global digital trends. The DL4ALL initiative represents a major step in preparing teachersand by extension, students for opportunities in the knowledge-driven economy, while building a digitally skilled workforce for national development.
